History

Putney Town F.C. over 100 years history?

In July 2004, a group of friends, based in Putney, formed a team they called “Putney Town F.C.”. At that time, they had no idea that the team of same name and location existed 100 years ago.

However, fast-forward to 2022 and a local resident A.Turner discovered an old photograph on a hard-drive depicting Putney Town F.C. from 1912.

The original photograph was presented to A.Turner in 2004, by Ken Bernard who had his grandfather in the picture (A.Bernard). The photograph was restored, digitized and shared with our club secretary.

So what is the story behind this historical photograph? Where did the photograph originate from?

Highly intrigued by this discovery, we set about trying to find out as much as possible about the previous Putney Town F.C. Where the photo was taken and why, the individuals in the photo (many of whom probably served in World War One).
